On Saturday 15 April Hugh, Sara, Georgia and Sophie took advantage
of a glorious day and headed to the Lake District to train for the Lakes 3000
challenge.
Hugh set off early on a solo adventure to test out our routes up
both Helvellyn and Skiddaw. Following the route from Swirls car park, he made
his way up Helvellyn, taking in beautiful views over Thirlmere and reaching the
summit ahead of the rush. He quickly took in the views from the snow-capped
peak before heading back down and on to Keswick to take on Skiddaw.
Meanwhile, Sara was joined by her friend Coral and Bruce the
rottweiler (who appears to be a big fan of Sara!) on a trek up Skiddaw via
Latrigg and Little Man. The trio powered their way to the top and took in some
stunning views over Keswick and the north lakes before heading back, making it back in time for lunch!
Finally, Georgia and Sophie instead chose to take on the Fairfield
Horseshoe – a ten mile loop up Fairfield and back from Ambleside. The pair
attempted to dodge bogs along their route which took them up eight Wainwrights,
whilst singing the soundtrack to SIX! The Musical for entertainment, which is
apparently difficult when you’re out of breath from scaling mountains… The team
are hoping they have at least learnt the words properly by the time we take on
the challenge!
All in all it was a fantastic weekend for training with the team
even more excited to take on the challenge in a few weeks’ time.
Keep an eye out for further updates on our training and the
charities which we are supporting.

On Saturday 4 March a team of 17 (plus two black Labradors) from
Muckle grouped together in Northumberland to test our hiking skills ahead of
the Lakes 3000 challenge.
After a late arrival from Ben (with no packed lunch in tow), we
set off on our walk in cold but sunny conditions. Half an hour in and we
arrived at the top of one hill, realising we had all put far too many layers on
for the first part of the walk.
Following a quick snack and outfit change (one of many for Jess
across the day) we set back off and came across what was to be the main
obstacle of our day – BOG. The remainder of our walk was a constant battle of
where to step in order to avoid knee-high mud and soggy socks. After a few
falls (or more than a few for some - *cough* Josh *cough*) and many scaled
fences (mostly by Eaden who chose to test her parkour skills at every chance
she got) we finally got to the Cheviot and took a short lunch break in a snowy
shower – perfect timing.
After lunch, the seasons changed again and we climbed the Cheviot
in what can only be described as heavy snow. Despite the weather and taking a
wrong turn into the spongiest field any man, woman, or black Lab has set foot
on, we found ourselves a paved footpath up to the peak of the Cheviot.
Even with the bog, snow and not-so-waterproof boots, everyone
finished their day in high spirits and excited for the next challenge.
