United We Climb

Climbing can be transformative. It can change how people feel about themselves and what they believe is possible — supporting mental health and wellbeing, building confidence, creating connection and belonging, and opening doors to new skills, friendships and opportunities.

Yet the people who could benefit most from these opportunities are often the people who face the greatest barriers to accessing them.


United We Climb (UWC) is a UK not-for-profit Community Interest Company working to remove those barriers and make the benefits of climbing and the outdoors accessible to more people — particularly those who have historically been excluded or underserved.


We work alongside communities including women and families affected by domestic abuse, refugees, and people experiencing social isolation or other intersecting barriers.


Our work goes beyond creating welcoming climbing sessions. We build relationships with communities, create accessible pathways into climbing, support people to develop skills and confidence, and work with organisations and the wider climbing sector to help change the systems and structures that create barriers in the first place.


This means creating opportunities not only to climb, but to progress — into volunteering, leadership, coaching, mentoring and other roles that enable people to help shape the future of climbing.


We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience what climbing can unlock — and to have a role in shaping what climbing becomes.
