Mindstep Foundation

The Mindstep Foundation is a suicide prevention charity that funds research to better understand and prevent suicide, as well as training counsellors and providing ASIST training. Founded by the family of Max Davies who died by suicide in 2018 at 22 years old, their aim is to prevent another family from experiencing such a devastating loss to suicide.

The Mindstep Foundation was founded by the family of Max Davies, who tragically died by suicide in 2018
at 22 years following a short period of depression.

Our aim is to prevent suicide by funding mental health and suicide prevention research, support and by raising awareness to reduce the stigma.

Mindstep have a working relationship with the University of Glasgow, where groundbreaking research is carried out at the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory (SBRL) led by Professor Rory O’Connor.

Our research tackles the complex questions around suicide and suicide prevention. Our focuses are the factors of suicide risk, improving suicide risk assessment and treatment planning, and understanding links between perfectionism and suicide.

Mindstep also provides Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Suicide First Aid to local schools and organisations, providing participants with the skills to intervene when someone is having thoughts of suicide.

Mindstep also invests in training psychotherapists, increasing the number of qualified professionals available to provide counselling. Once qualified,
they deliver subsidised therapy on behalf of our charity to those unable to afford treatment.
