Hakuna Matata was founded in 2010 by Davide Serra and Anna Barassi. The majority of the projects that we support are in Central Tanzania in the Njombe region. Our aim is to invest in sustainable projects and alleviate poverty in the area.

We believe that giving disadvantaged children the opportunity to have an education is vital to the success of the charity.

Education, Farming, Disability Services, Healthcare, and supporting Orphaned Children are our main focus areas. Hakuna Matata is run by a dedicated team of Trustees who all give their time for free, meaning more of your donation can help those in desperate need.

Your Impact

In 2022, Hakuna Matata continued to provide financial support to the Ilembula Parish to run activities supporting orphaned and vulnerable children. The funds were used to provide financial support to pay salaries and train the staff of Ilunda Orphanage. Ilunda currently hosts 65 children and 15 members of staff.
Hakuna Matata started implementing climate change mitigation projects in 2019, mostly through reforestation and afforestation activities. Since 2019, a total of 99,842 trees of mixed species have been planted. In 2022 we extended our activities, increasing the seedling production sites in Njombe and Mbeya region and distributing over 100,000 seedlings during the rainy season.

Community Based Rehabilitation and training; The activities of this project started in October 2022 with development and strengthening of new partnerships in Mbeya Town and Kyela District. The funds of Hakuna Matata will be used to strengthen rehabilitation units in the Kyela District through staff training and delivery of materials and equipment to the rehabilitation units.
