Momentum Children’s Charity was founded in 2004 by our current Chief Executive and two parents whose children had cancer, because they identified many gaps in support for the emotional and practical needs of the whole family.

Today, Momentum partners with 10 local NHS hospitals in London, Surrey and Sussex who refer families to them following a child’s diagnosis of cancer or a life-challenging condition. Momentum's Family Support Workers work with children, siblings, and parents to understand their individual needs, offering them personally-tailored support, both in hospital and at home, to help them cope more easily, improve their mental wellbeing and access practical help.

Momentum's support services include: counselling, creative therapies (play, music, art), respite breaks, peer-to-peer support, and special experiences to ease some of the stress and strain that comes with a gruelling treatment plan. If the unthinkable happens, and a child dies, we offer specialist bereavement support.  We also create a more positive experience in hospital for children and their families during their time on the children’s wards, arranging activities, therapies and child-friendly refurbishments.

Annually, Momentum supports around 1,500 seriously ill children, siblings and parents from 430 families. Momentum is there, whatever the outcome, for as long as they're needed, so that no family has to cope alone.

Your Impact

Thank you for choosing to donate to Momentum Children’s Charity. We receive no statutory income and rely entirely on voluntary donations. For the coming year, we need to raise £1.1 million to carry out our charitable activities and meet our annual objectives. Your support will help us to make sure that no family with a seriously ill child has to cope alone.

£5

Could restock a hospital fridge with ice lollies and cold drinks to help soothe a child’s painful side effects from chemotherapy.

£50

Could help us to host a support group, connecting families so they can share their worries and experiences, and make them feel less alone.

£175

Could give a family a respite break on board our riverboat ‘Moments on the River’; a chance to exhale, as a family, and make some lasting memories.
