This year, I am running the London Marathon to raise money for two amazing causes, Men’s mental health charity (Man Down) and Crohn's & Colitis UK.
Last year, whilst working abroad, I became severely ill and had to be rushed back to the UK. After extensive tests and a prolonged hospital stay, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. It was a frightening and life-changing experience, but it gave me a new perspective and a determination to turn this hardship into something meaningful.
Man Down is an incredible charity doing vital work across the UK to support men and tackle the devastating issue of male suicide. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50 in the UK, with men accounting for around 75% of all suicides. Every week, 125 lives are lost to suicide, and most of these are men. Man Down are on a mission to reduce the number of men taking their own lives by providing safe spaces for men to talk, connect, and share their struggles without judgment.
This cause is deeply personal to me. Over the years, I’ve battled my own mental health struggles, including alcohol and drug abuse, and I know how isolating it can feel. Men’s mental health is often overlooked, and breaking the stigma around it is something I’m incredibly passionate about. I want to encourage more open conversations and remind men that it’s okay to ask for help.
If you can please support these incredible causes by donating or sharing my story.
Together, we can make a difference.
