Sarah Kidd's Maggie's x Baltic: Charity Fire Walk
If you love the idea of me in pain and/or want to support a wonderful local charity, please donate anything you can for this bonkers event.
15 years ago in November 2009, I was just about to finish my series of 6 chemo sessions. I had 3 weeks of daily radiotherapy to get through before Christmas.
I had no hair, no eyebrows or eyelashes, a 1 year old baby Haz and 4 year old Joe at Nursery.
All I wished for was to still be here to see my youngest son start school.
Fast forward to now, hair is a little bit greyer but all good, eyebrows and eyelashes are all doing well - Joe is at University, Haz is starting his GCSE year.
Over the years I've learnt a few things - that people want you to be better and get the 'all clear'. That never happens. Once you've had cancer, you've never not had cancer. But you learn to live with that part of your life, and as life goes on, it becomes just one part of your history, not the only thing people know about you.
I've had bone scans, various chest x-rays, reconstructive breast surgery and a body with many scars - some easier to see than others. Although Newcastle Maggies wasn't built at the time I was having my first lot of treatment, I have benefited from the centre many times since. It is the most supportive, warm and caring environment for anyone needing support - including friends and family of those diagnoses. And they always have cake and the kettle on!
Over the years, with the support of many wonderful people in my life, I've done the Great North Run a number of times, Liverpool Half Marathon and a Moonwalk around Edinburgh.
So this year, instead of many hours and miles of training, I thought I'd do something very different.
Please do donate anything you can, or share this post to anyone you think would be interested or might need the support of the wonderful Maggies.
As the date gets closer I am going to get more and more nervous so if I you can donate anything, it will help me not chicken out!!!

Walking on hot coals, known as fire walking, is an ancient practice in various cultures. Individuals walk barefoot on burning coals, which can reach temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Firewalkers navigate the path without burns or injuries due to the coals’ insulating ash and specific mental and physical techniques. Fire walking demonstrates human resilience and serves as a metaphor for overcoming fears and challenges in life.
