Natali and Andy climb some big hills
As an incentive to get a little bit fitter, and to benefit the charities they have chosen, Natali and Andy have enrolled with a team to take on the National 3-Peak (24Hr) Challenge in June 2023
This challenge involves getting up and down the 3 highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (in that order), as well as travelling approximately 450 miles in between, all within a 24hr timescale.
For those of you not familiar with what each peak entails, here are some key points about the 3 ascents that will have to be undertaken (none of them very nice.!):
Ben Nevis:
1. An 8.30am start (with 5 hours allotted for ascent/descent)
2. Height: 4413ft (1345m)
3. Distance: 9 miles (14.5km)
Scafell Pike:
1. A 7.30pm start (with 4 hours allotted)
2. Height: 3209ft (978m)
3. Distance: 6 miles (9.65km)
Mt Snowdon:
1. A 4.30am start..! (with 4 hours allotted)
2. Height: 3560ft (1085m)
3. Distance: 7 miles (11.26km)
The 4 charities chosen to benefit from this fundraising activity represent both national and localised causes, all of which are very dear to both Natali and Andy:
Bowel Cancer UK - Having lost both family and friends to this particular illness, any funds raised will facilitate further vital research.
Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance - A more localised charity that obviously saves lives on a daily basis and which relies completely on donations to allow its continued operation.
Help for Heroes - Natali and Andy both served in the RAF and are keen to support this charity which assists all ex-service personnel, and their families, through any difficulties they are experiencing.
Lake District Search And Mountain Rescue Association (LSSAMRA) - Is the umbrella body for mountain rescue teams in Cumbria. Funded solely by voluntary contributions, their 12 member teams cover the entire Lake District National Park and Cumbria region.
