Trailwalker 100km 2024
We’re The JET Set. Friends, colleagues and the executive team of the Jon Egging Trust. For the past few years - normally over a glass of wine - we’ve talked about doing a marathon. Then, at the beginning of 2024, Laura suggested the 100km Trailwalker Challenge on the South Downs Way - organised each year by her husband’s army unit, the Queen’s Gurkha Signals, in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
We said: ‘100km?! Absolutely no chance.’
Which somehow turned into: ‘Yay, we’re in’. So Laura signed us up. Thanks LC!
Initially, the plan was to raise funds equally for Gurkha Welfare Trust (a fabulous charity which provides support and much-needed aid to Gurkha veterans, their families and their communities in Nepal) and of course the amazing Jon Egging Trust (founded by our very own Em, supporting young people to overcome adversity and thrive).
Then came a curveball. Laura’s wonderful, bright, sporty, 13yr-old son, Alexander, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Laura, Alexander and their family have dealt with this diagnosis head on, always with boundless positivity, courage and smiles (we’re all in awe). As Alexander continues to navigate his chemotherapy journey (still with a smile on his face, of course!) we knew we couldn’t take on this epic challenge without also asking him to select a charity for us. And so, Alexander has chosen Cancer Research UK as our third nominated charity.
Our aim is to raise a minimum of £500 for each of our fabulous charities and all money raised will be split equally between GWT, JET and Cancer Research UK.
A huge thank you for any support or words of encouragement - 100km is a flippin long way, so we’re definitely going to need it!
