The team at Cairneagle is taking on a London Bridges Challenge walking or running over 10 bridges in central London on September 2024, to raise money for our two partner charities: Pratham UK and upReach.

Both charities work to improve education and create opportunities in deprived contexts near and far. As an education-focussed strategy consulting company, we are excited by the positive impact that Pratham and upReach are making in the world. Pratham:
In the words of Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, "Pratham's impact on the lives of millions of kids has been tremendous; it is quite simply an exceptional, best-in-class organisation that has managed to scale across India." They have won many prizes, including the Kravis Prize, the Skoll Award, the WISE Prize, the LUI Che Woo Prize and, most recently, the Yidan Prize.

Pratham conduct high-quality, low-cost and replicable interventions to address gaps in the education system. Their best-known programme, Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), teaches basic literacy and numeracy in as little as 30 days for £14 per student. They offer this directly in 10,000 villages in 21 states in India and work with a number of state governments to implement it themselves, in some years, this enables them to reach a further five million children. The Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel has recommended it as one of very few Great Buys in their recent Smart Buys report.

They also offer an Early Childhood Development programme focusing on school readiness. Their Second Chance programme supports women back to school to complete their class ten exams, the gateway into the formal economy. Their vocational training programme is exceptional and has helped 100,000 young people into the formal economy in 10 years

upReach:
upReach is an award-winning social mobility charity striving for a society in which everybody has the opportunity to realise their full career potential, regardless of social background. The UK is facing a social mobility crisis in which students at leading universities from working class backgrounds who achieve a first class degree are still less likely to secure top jobs than privileged students who only achieve a 2:2. To counteract this, upReach delivers a comprehensive programme of employability coaching to young people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, who often have limited access to professional networks and career guidance.

upReach support over 3,000 undergraduate students to develop the knowledge, skills and connections to access top graduate jobs. They offer a variety of activities, ranging from skills workshops to mock assessment centres, designed to break down socioeconomic barriers to competitive graduate roles. Collaborating with employers to boost awareness of the importance of social mobility, the charity supports them to develop inclusive recruitment processes. In recognition of our dedication to creating a more equal society, upReach was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity in 2022, and awarded Medium-Sized Charity of the Year at the Third Sector Awards
