Adventure4Dementia - Everest in the Alps
Team Adventure4Dementia - Everest in the Alps
Ian Brungs, Simon Anam, Joff Goor, Jonathan Gomer, Hamilton Matthews and Angus McIntosh (Team Adventure4Dementia) will be participating in an extreme 4 day Ski-tour uphill endurance challenge - Everest in the Alps.
Everest in the Alps is the ultimate winter sports endurance challenge. The goal is simple: to ascend the height of Mount Everest on skis – while raising money for two causes close to our hearts. The plan may be simple, but the challenge is anything but. It is a grueling event in Verbier in the Swiss Alps, which involves approximately 32 hours of uphill ski touring and only 3 hours of downhill, with up to 20 separate ascents. Each day we will climb between 2,000m – 2,500m to reach the overall target of 8,848m. The average time out on the snow is 8 hours a day, but it can be longer – however long it takes to keep on track. At altitudes of up to 3,500m, we will burn through a daily average of 10,000 calories – the equivalent of running three back-to-back marathons.
Our goal is to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK. A number of us have close family members with Dementia and are only too aware of the amazing work Dementia UK does, particularly through Admiral Nurses. It costs £60,000 to fund a Dementia (Admiral) Nurse for 2 years. Our goal is to raise this amount.
We are also delighted to support the founder of EIA's charity The Brain Tumour Charity with 20% of the funds raised.
The team is incurring all the event costs, which will enable 100% of the funds raised to go to the two charities.
Any support would be greatly appreciated!!

Training
Just returned from training with those of the team that could make it. Great to spend time with old friends but proved how daunting the event is. 2100 metres in 2 days and the event requires 2500 per day...........................We have our work cut out.........
