CLIFTON HOGS do LEJoG - 965 Miles - 8 Days - Lands’ End to John o’ Groats
Those chaps who brought you the Ouse the Daddy canoe extravaganza, travelling from Clifton to Kings Lynn in 2022, whilst raising over £8000 for Movember, are back!
This time, our journey takes us from Lands’ End to John o’ Groats, travelling on our eight classic (1978 – 2002) Honda C90s, 965 miles in total. Top speed of these roaring machines is around 40mph, but that’s downhill with a gale force wind behind us! Our average speed will be around 25mph, taking in the sights and sounds of our wonderful country with the odd hiccup here and there no doubt!
The team consists of Jules (President) Boothby, Neil Blannin, Steve Nott, Ian Saunders, Wayne (Taff) Morgan, Neil Panton, Andrew Thorn and finally, Rob Cooke. All have undertaken their relevant training to obtain their licences. Our eight riders will be supported for the entire trip by our highly, un-skilled, non-mechanical engineers, Martin Kemp & his sidekick, Jason Shacklock, in their support and recovery vehicle. What could go wrong?!!
Our trip is over eight days, starting on Saturday, 13th July in Lands' End and finishing on Saturday, 20th July at JOG. We will ride around 130 miles most days. On route, we will be overnight firstly in Truro. Day two onto Bridgewater. Then we travel to Bewdley and then onto Ashton on Ribble. Its then a trip over the border and onto Lockerbie. Next, its night six in the town of Dunkeld. Off then to Alnes and after our final destination of John o’ Groats, we head back to Wick on the Saturday evening. Our van then heads back to Bedfordshire and our riders fly back from Inverness to Luton on the Sunday.
Now the important bit, we have collectively voted for two charities, which we hope you will be able to support in whatever way you can. Both are local charities, firstly the Bedford MS Therapy Centre, who provide specialist therapies and support for those suffering with MS and now Parkinson's disease. The centre also support other neurological patient conditions. Our second nominated charity is The Herts & Beds BloodBikers charity, covering our local hospitals plus St John’s Hospice and Keech Hospice Care, delivering urgent blood and medical supplies via motorbike. We are sure that you’ll agree that these two charities are wonderful and that they all need our support.

UPDATED POSITION @ 22/5 - Followers, its still not good news coming out of hospital bike intensive care. Could it be the end of one of our bikes before the trip has even started or can the hospital mechanics perform bike saving treatment?? - We'll keep you posted of course. One of our bikes is currently in hospital. It’s touch and go but with your prayers we hope to get it back working

Off to visit Bedford MS Therapy Centre
A trip for four of our crew to one of our chosen charities, The Bedford MS Therapy Centre. What an amazing place and what great work they do to support their clients. They receive no government funding. They require £1600 a week to fund the centre and rely on fundraising from folk like us, charity nights, donations (big and small) plus an in-house shop that sells all sorts of donated items.

Here we are with our classic Honda C90 motorbikes which range from 1978 to 2002. Some worked when we purchased them, some didn’t. After many hours tinkering with gears, oil levels, fuel blockages, exhaust repairs etc, we might just be ready. What stands ahead of us, who knows? Make sure that you follow our progress over the next few weeks before we depart on our trip.
