Sam's swim for MNDA
I'm Sam Groom, I work on the Client Relationship Team, and have been here at AdviserPlus since 2006, and I’m asking for your help…
I've signed up to swim 6k in May for the charity MNDA Wirral (Motor Neurone Disease Association, Wirral branch) this cause is very very close to my heart after heartbreakingly losing my mum to this wicked disease in 2018, after being diagnosed for just over 2 years. My mum was inspirational and showed immense strength throughout her fight, she is and always will be my hero and I miss her so so much. In 2024 in our area alone (Ellesmere Port and Neston), there have already been 7 people who have been diagnosed with MND, and the fundraising in this area specifically, needs a boost.
The MNDA provided the most amazing support to mum, from her diagnosis through to her final days, they provided life-changing, vital equipment; mum was linked up with a volunteer MNDA Wirral visitor called Debbie Williams, who helped with organising physical aids, attending support groups as well as emotional support when mum was coping with the changes that were occurring and all so very quickly; as well directing us to the many different other support channels we needed to tap into, we couldn't have done without Debbie’s help throughout our journey and I'm still in touch with her today, I'll be forever grateful to Debbie (and she does all of this for free!!).
MNDA understands the rapid changes that occur for anybody living with MND, and provided mum with an iPad, with an app that mum used to communicate when she could no longer use her voice (we did have some laughs with this, as mum was never very good with the tech), they provided a stair lift when she could no longer climb her stairs that she used to run up with ease and they arranged this swiftly, knowing time is vitally important.
I want to help this wonderful charity, so they can continue supporting families who are on this incredibly hard journey, by taking those steps together with them, and by also funding research so that one day a cure can be found to end this awful suffering.
If you can help by donating just a pound or two, I will be super grateful, every donation is helpful. I'm hoping to swim far more than 6k in May, I will try my best to smash this target. Mum loved swimming before she became poorly, and on the days I can't be bothered going, when it's cold outside or after a tough day, I always think to myself, what would my mum give to be able to go for a nice swim.
Thank you for your support, may we fight this disease and maybe even help to find a cure, one day, together.
