Sophie Manson's Yorkshire 3 Peaks Ultramarathon
After years of doing half marathon after half marathon, I'm upping the ante. Sadly I seem to have lost my mind and said farewell to lovely half marathon territory, wandered right past the obvious next step, and strode delusionally into the grips of an ultramarathon. Needless to say, it's going to be a toughie, and I'll be needing all the help I can get.
As some of you may know, I'm finishing up my PhD in the next few months (my viva is in fact the same week as the ultramarathon...). Although this may seem like a strange attempt at procrastination, I'm sure we can all agree there are far easier and less painful ways to do that. So lately, my days have been filled with a fateful combination of data analysis, writing, and running.
Hopefully this sounds grim enough that you'll spare a few pennies, and you'll be supporting two amazing charities in doing so: Dove House Hospice and Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières). I feel personally bound to both of these charities, and they rely on donations from the public to do their amazing work. So if you can spare a couple of quid, I would be enormously appreciative.
So, without further ado, let's go run up some peaks!
A bit more info about the charities...
Dove House Hospice - Dove House is a charity very close to my heart. They are a hospice in Hull providing those who are terminally ill, and their families also, with compassionate end of life care, with dignity and compassion at its core. Whilst I was first connected to Dove House through my Mum, who worked there for 17 years, they have also cared for several of my loved ones. I am indebted to Dove House, and I will forever continue to support their life-changing work. - https://www.dovehouse.org.uk/
Médecins Sans Frontières - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders, is an international charity providing emergency health care to those living in conflict zones across the globe. My heart breaks for the stories coming out of Ukraine, Palestine, Sudan, Congo, the list goes on. We should all have access to health care, and the political situation of the country you live in should not hinder this access. I believe the work MSF are doing is beyond heroic, and giving them a small donation, if we are able, is the least we can do. - https://msf.org.uk/
