The McPhunn Misfits
Graham and Gordon have signed up for a banger car challenge, run by the Rust2Rome organisation. The event is to drive from Edinburgh to Rome, via the Swiss Alps, over 9 day period, camping in organised camp sites as we go. We will have 2 days rest in Rome before making our way back home. This is hoping that our chosen chariot does not break down! The chariot in question for this journey is a 2003 Volvo V70 with over 135000 miles on the clock.
Preperation of the car for the journey, is on-going and we still have a couple of repairs and service issues to be carried out. As well as a full service, we are replacing the timing belt and one of the car door locks which, strangely, appears to lock then unlock itself when you press the car fob to lock the car!
We are also fundraising for two local charities, as follows:
- Ardentinny Outdoor Centre.
They are an outdoor education centre situated in the remote village of Ardintinny where families, or groups, can experience and learn a wide range of challenging and exciting outdoor activities. This is a place that inspires and motivates, an important context for exploring and developing personalities and relationships.
-Strachur Community Shed.
Stachur is also a fairly remote village with other small villages around it. There is a increasing aging population and as such, this can be very lonely place for some.
The purpose of the shed is to bring people together, young and old, to meet up in a safe enviroment.
Within the shed as well as it being social meeting place, there will be activities for those that want to make items from wood, carry out repairs to items such as bikes, sewing machines and any other items, for a samll donation. Our shed is a fledgling shed but we are hoping to raise money to fund the construction of a permanent bespoke building, within the heart of the village.
