250 Mile Solo SWCP Hike
250 Mile Solo SWCP Hike
I am hiking 250 miles of the SWCP from Minehead to Cape Cornwall over approx 3 weeks. This will not only be physically tough, but mentally too as I am doing most of this solo and will have to camp every night, with limited access to campsites. My backpack will be kept as light as possible, but I'm not known for packing light!!
More importantly along my journey I want to share more about the 4 charities I am supporting and hopefully raise funds and awareness of the causes.
Cancer has dominated my life for over 20 years, with my husband being diagnosed with a rare cancer when I was 30, who sadly died in January 2009 aged just 39. He was treated at The Royal Marsden Hospital which I will always be so grateful, as without them Craig would have not had access to new pioneering treatment and probably died within months of his eventual diagnosis.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and I am passionate about supporting the cancer community, raising awareness and using my voice and patient experience to make change.
Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity solely dedicated to predicting, preventing and protecting future generations from breast cancer, which is so important. Prevention is better than cure and if we can protect future generations form hearing that word, then we must do more.
Radiotherapy UK is pushing for change to provide all UK patients that should have radiotherapy as part of their cancer treatment the right access at the right time. Currently the statistics in the UK fall hugely short of that across other countries and the investment in the UK is seriously lacking, meaning people are not able to get what they need and ultimately their lives cut short.
Move Against Cancer exists to provide young people diagnosed with cancer access through tailored individual programs to get moving as part of their journey. Physical activity is proven to aid recovery, wellbeing and mental health throughout and after a cancer diagnosis.
All four charities are so deserving of support, so I hope you can support my craziness and spare some ££ to support these incredible causes x
