Isle of man coast cycle
Trigger warning: sexual violence/domestic violence/mental health
Hello everyone!!
I’m trying to not make this a big sob story and trauma dump, but it feels about time to do something positive out of the rubbish year I have had!
As some of you know, I’ve had a pretty rough year. I left an abusive relationship (happy to speak more privately if anyone wants to reach out), and a couple of months later I got doinked by a car whilst cycling my beloved road bike, Pepper (RIP! - might be brought back to life!)
I’ve had a humungous amount of support from my friends, family, colleagues, women’s services and the Police (although of course it didn’t progress much, as there is little justice for survivors). I was able to come off crutches around Feb/March 23, and I’ve been easing back into cycling and being out and about. As many of you know, I love to be here, there, and everywhere, so it was a reallllllly shockingly shit time when I didn’t have the mental strength, as I’d have 3+ panic attacks daily, and then I physically couldn’t get about due to a foot fracture. Very very very frustrating!
ANYWAY, I am absolutely fine now. I’ve had copious amounts of therapy, thanks to RASA Merseyside, Tomorrow Women’s Wirral and the Open Door Charity. I can only highly recommend these services, and I’m happy to help anyone with referrals if you need some support.
Plattfields Bike Hub have been a m a z i n g … The guys and girls have really helped me get my confidence back with cycling and just being generally good eggs. They are based in Plattfields Park in Manchester and are a not-for profit CIC.
In June, I’m hoping to cycle the circumference of the Isle of Man (~100miles) over a few days, to raise money for RASA Merseyside and Plattfields Bike Hub. I wish I could donate to all of those who have helped but I doubt I’ll be able to raise enough in such a short time.
I would appreciate it SO much if you could donate anything you can to help both these organisations, for helping me so much! Without sounding too morbid, and it might be hard to believe as I am the happiest most energetic bean, I genuinely don’t think I would have made it through the last 12 months without the support of RASA and Plattfields Bike Hub. So of course, I’m extremely keen to show my appreciation towards them both.
There is absolutely no pressure to donate, but if anyone would like to chat or reach out please do.
Love to you all,
