The Busking Banshee

Nifty title eh? Says what it is on the tin! A busking banshee belting birdsong! I'm fundraising for two charities by attempting to busk this one and only time to fundraise for two charities:

- CRISIS: a UK national charity for people experiencing homelessness
- MEDICAL AID for PALESTINIANS (MAP), a British charity that offers medical services in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon, and advocates for Palestinians' rights to health and dignity.

The gist .. for years, at the annual Beach Busk here in Portobello, Edinburgh, I both loved and envied the people who played and sang. The human spirit rises with music, whether you're singing, playing or listening. Sadly, I can't even play a triangle. And I only sing in the shower (while my family call emergency services, worried I'm drowning) and a few beers in at Karaoke. So why do this?

Because, heck, it's only embarrassment and people throwing tomatoes right? .. I can take a truckload x 100 of that if you can help me raise money for people whose suffering is aided by Crisis and Medical Aid for Palestinians

To fundraise for these two charities, I will try to sing and play my newly learned ukulele (badly) at the Beach Busk on SATURDAY August 30, 2025. I'm practising when I can and aiming for 15 songs I can get through and repeat all day. You have been warned, you won't discover an Adele here, more like Fozzy Bear.

The idea of playing and singing in public is an incredibly vulnerable thing. But it's nothing compared to the vulnerability and the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and those who are homeless in our country's communities.

Lastly, I know things are tough all over. Any amount of donation is great, I bow my head in thanks and appreciation.

As the Beach Busk approaches, I'll be posting on my socials and here. Prepare your coins and ear broccoli for some right amateur yodelling.
