Finish the 282 Munros after cancer.
7456
It’s taken eight and a half years.
Following my full whammy of treatment for breast cancer in 2014 I was the weakest that l had ever been in my life. I struggled to walk from one end of my house to the other.
So, I decided to do something to motivate my long journey back to fitness, as well as to raise funds for the Maggies Centre in Inverness and Scottish mountain rescue.
I had visited Maggie's regularly when travelling up and down to Inverness from Caithness as well as when I had to stay in Inverness for a month for the radiotherapy part of my treatment.
I started my endeavour towards the end of 2016 at age 53 and it's been a labour of love ever since to 'compleat' the Munro's.. (Yes that’s how you spell it!)So, finally, at 62 years young I'll finish very soon. Two to go.
There are 282 Munro's. These are the highest hills in Scotland, some of which are straightforward... and others that are not!
I have slept in cars, vans, tents, youth hostels, huts and on the top of mountains in bivvies.
It's been some journey!
The hills and views have been outstanding. Some hills I will NEVER repeat and others I look forward to revisiting.
I hope you can give a little to Maggies so that the next startled person who finds out that they have cancer can get the support that I had to try and get their head round it …...and find their way forward.
Or, give a little to Scottish mountain rescue. Being in the hills is wonderful and it’s incredible that teams of volunteers have your back if something dire happens when you are out on the hill. Hats off to the mountain rescue teams.
Thanks again.
Much Love from Janette x
