This summer we are challenging ourselves by sailing from Greece all the way back home to Cornwall in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK and Surfers Against Sewage.
Since our lovely mum’s Early Onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis last year, making memories has become a particularly poignant phenomenon for us. Inspired by our mum’s childhood, sailing around the English Channel with her family, my brother, sister, and I embarked on the journey from our home in Cornwall in July 2024, arriving in Greece in early September last year.
This year, we’re coming back home and want to raise some awareness, money, and hopefully inspire others to get out there, protect our oceans and make some amazing and lasting memories of their own.
We will be joined by friends and family along the way as we attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea, up into the locks of France and then finally navigate the hectic Bay of Biscay, back up to Cornwall. Hopefully we manage to keep us and our boat, a 29ft Westerly Konsort named Coral Corona, floating and chugging along the 2000+ nautical mile journey - although things might get a bit hairy if last year is anything to go by!
Alzheimer’s Research UK is an incredible charity that is supporting thousands of families by helping to fund vital research into prevention, treatment, and ultimately a cure for this heartbreaking disease. Every donation helps scientists get closer to breakthroughs that could change lives.
At the same time, we’re supporting Surfers Against Sewage, a Cornwall-born charity fighting to protect our oceans from pollution, climate change, and environmental destruction. The sea has given us so much—adventure, joy, and a space to create lasting memories. By supporting SAS, we hope to play our part in ensuring the oceans remain a place of connection, healing, and inspiration for generations to come.
