Racing Against Kids Cancer for Arabella

Join us as we go on this fundraising journey, raising vital funds for two cancer charities very close to our hearts. No amount is too small, thank you!

Our Story...
One very normal Tuesday last October 2024, we took our five year old daughter Arabella for a blood test. On the same day we were asked to return to the hospital urgently, and any parent's nightmare became our reality. We were rushed into a private room immediately which I thought was odd for a busy afternoon in Barnet A&E, and we knew something was wrong. In that moment everything changed, Arabella was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Suddenly, our daughter so full of energy and smiles became a cancer patient. We spent weeks in hospital away from our other children, alongside Arabella battling intense chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, countless blood tests, blood transfusions, the list goes on. Normal things like going to school and playing with friends suddenly stopped. Like all children touched by cancer, she has endured what no child should experience.

The last few months have been intense to say the least, but we are lucky that treatment has been effective so far. We still have a long road ahead with treatment due to end in November 2026 but we stay positive and we keep fighting! Inspired by Arabella's strength through all of this we are determined to make a positive difference through fundraising and we need your help!

Young Lives vs Cancer and MacMillan Cancer Support help families like ours find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them. Everyday 12 children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. When a loved one is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. They helped us navigate when we were lost and make sense of things we knew nothing about. They supported not just Arabella but her sisters and our whole family unit, we are forever grateful.

The Challenge...
Moving our body is a privilege and one we won't take for granted again. With this in mind, Michael and I along with some friends will take on not one but two fitness challenges in May. If Arabella can be brave, then so can we!

3/4 May - HYROX London Olympia - Michael and I along with our dear friend Kelly Harman will compete in this grueling running strength and endurance race! Kelly kicks off on 3rd May in the female solo category, while Michael and I will compete in the mixed doubles event on 4th May. HYROX combines both running & functional workout stations, where participants run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times.

11 May - Nuclear Fit, Brentwood - Michael and I have gathered the troops in the shape of family and friends to race each other to the finish line! This outdoor course combines running and functional weight stations over 6k.

These events are a huge challenge for us. We are doing our best to squeeze in training wherever possible while Arabella is still in the midst of intense chemo. But just like her we are pushing ourselves to our limits! Your donations mean so much to us, no matter how small together we can make a difference.

Our Pledge...
Help us reach our target of £2400! We have pledged the first £1200 raised will go to MacMillan Cancer Support and all funds raised beyond that will go to Young Lives vs Cancer.

Thank you,
Maria & Michael
