This year I’m celebrating two landmarks - turning 50, and working as a doctor in the NHS for 25 years. I’ve decided to mark these occasions by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, 1000 miles in 9 days, raising money for causes close to my heart.
In 1999, my mother tragically took her own life—a loss that has shaped my life profoundly. It’s a deeply personal story that I haven’t often shared, but it’s also one that drives my passion for supporting mental health and suicide prevention.
That’s why I’ve chosen to raise funds for two charities.
The OLLIE Foundation, a remarkable charity dedicated to preventing suicide through education and support. Their work is saving lives every day, providing vital resources, training, and hope to people in need.
Winston’s Wish, a charity supporting children and young people coping with the loss of a parent, sibling or important person. The death of a parent can be the most traumatic experience a child or young person will ever face, as I know from personal experience. This incredible charity works to ensure that no child or young person grieves alone.
I’m aiming to raise £10,000, which will be split equally between these two charities. That’s £10 per mile. Every donation makes a difference. Your support will help ensure these charities can continue their outstanding work and help others who are going through what I did, so they can get the help and support they need.
If you feel moved to donate, please do. And if you’re unable to, sharing this page with others can make just as big an impact.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
