It's been a long-held ambition to run the London Marathon. It is such a British treasure and I always admired the people running for good causes. Now I'm excited to join their ranks!
When thinking about the race and what causes to support, my thoughts went to my mother-in-law, Barbara Stevens, who passed away from brain cancer in January 2023. She was a London native and would have been so excited for me to run this race. It seems fitting that I honour her memory by running for 2 causes that meant a lot to her and to all the family.
The first of these is Cancer Research UK, Nearly everybody knows someone, or has been personally affected by cancer. Cancer Research UK is one of the world's premier organisations in the fight against cancer, supporting doctors, nurses and scientists through research, providing information and education to the public and developing public policy and strategy for beating cancer.
The second cause is The Lullaby Trust, a charity focused on saving the lives of babies and young children. Every week about 3 babies a week die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and The Lullaby Trust is dedicated to reducing this number to zero. The loss of a child is the most painful thing for a parent to endure and Barbara wanted to ensure that nobody else had to go through the loss of a child to SIDS. Research, education and support for bereaved families are the core of the Lullaby Trust's work.
It would mean a lot to me if you would support these excellent organisations with a donation and every donation will help me cross that finish line and fulfil my ambition!
