The Shuffleboard Society - World’s Toughest Row – Atlantic 2025

The Shuffleboard Society is a team of four completely novice rowers - Alec, James, Hugo & Richard. We are rowing the Atlantic Ocean in memory of Richard's beloved late sister who sadly lost her battle with cancer in 2020. We are aiming to raise £100k for Rowcroft Hospice who gave Lizzie such incredible care and for CALM - a mental health charity close to our hearts, having lost young friends to suicide.

3000 miles of hot, fierce & diverse Atlantic ocean, we'll be racing from the volcanic shores of San Sebastian de La Gomera, Spain to paradise in Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua.

The annual race begins in early December 2025, attracting teams from around the world. The race structure brings together an environment where teams from across the globe gather in the race village San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands. The atmosphere is electric as people help each other prepare for the challenge of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. All with the same objective – to take on the unique experience of crossing an ocean in a rowing boat.

Teams battle with sleep deprivation, salt sores, and physical extremes inflicted by the race. Rowers are left with their own thoughts, an expanse of the ocean and the job of getting the boat safely to the other side. We will each be rowing for 2 hours on, 2 hours off for approx. 40 days.

The race offers different experiences to all involved. The challenge creates strong friendships and competitiveness gives way to the camaraderie that is required to complete the challenge. Upon finishing, rowers join a small community of friends that have shared the adventures of an ocean crossing. The mental and physical endurance will result in a life-changing achievement, that will never be forgotten. Wish us luck in doing Lizzie proud and please give generously to two amazing causes!
