Theo’s 47 runs for Down’s Syndrome
5915
Theo Hopkins
Theo is 7 years old with a passion for running and a big challenge ahead of him. Inspired by the incredible support his cousin Silas has received from Down’s Syndrome Oxford (DSO) and his own love for sport and Brighton & Hove Albion, Theo is embarking on a year-long mission to raise funds for three amazing charities:
Down’s Syndrome Oxford (DSO): A volunteer-run charity that provides information, support, and activities for children and adults with Down’s syndrome and their families in Oxfordshire. DSO has been a tremendous support for Silas and his family.
Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA): This national charity works to improve the lives of people with Down’s syndrome across the UK. Within the DSA, there is a fantastic program called DSActive, which runs sports sessions tailored for people with Down’s syndrome. Locally, in Brighton, Albion in the Community hosts DSActive football sessions, providing children and adults with Down’s syndrome the opportunity to play football in a supportive and inclusive environment. This cause is close to Theo’s heart, as it combines his love for Brighton & Hove Albion and the joy of sport for individuals with Down’s syndrome.
Junior Parkrun: A proportion of the money (20%) raised will also support Junior Parkrun events, an incredible initiative that encourages children aged 4 to 14 to engage in regular physical activity through free, weekly, timed 2km runs. Junior Parkrun promotes fitness, community involvement, and fun, fostering a lifelong love of running and exercise. This cause holds special meaning for Theo, who has been participating in Junior Parkrun since he was 4 years old. At the start of this challenge, he had already completed an impressive 140 park runs. Recognising that a significant part of this event involves attending different Parkrun locations, Theo felt it was fitting to contribute to the Junior Parkrun program and help it continue to inspire young runners like himself.
Theo’s Challenge:
To acknowledge the 47 chromosomes that characterise Down’s syndrome, Theo will take on a mammoth challenge. Over the next year, he will run 47 different races or runs, each in a unique location. This journey will include Junior Parkruns and other running events across the country, showcasing Theo’s dedication and determination.
Having completed over 140 Junior Parkruns already, Theo is ready to push himself to make a real difference for people like Silas. Regular updates on his progress will be shared on this fundraising page, so you can follow his journey and cheer him on.
Your Support:
Please consider supporting Theo in his mission to help raise funds for these three incredible charities. Your contribution will make a lasting impact, supporting vital services and creating opportunities for people such as his cousin Silas.

We left Brighton in the rain and arrived in Reigate in the sunshine. On this beautiful all grass course Theo took the opportunity to wear his spikes and clock a new Personal Best time of 9:03. The team at Reigate gave Theo a great shout out before the warm-up inspiring him to run quicker than ever before.
0 likesRun number 16 came at Horsham on their final event using the winter course. Theo clocked another sub 10 minute time finishing the course in 9:45. Great job Theo!
0 likesTheo was motivated to push his limits at the Worthing Junior Parkrun, especially, after running within himself the last couple of weeks. Theo crossed the finish line in a hugely improved time of 9.24. Keep going Theo!
0 likesRun number 14 was a special one. The sun shone on the fabulous Brighton Miles event. There was a wonderful festival vibe on Preston Park and although Theo didn’t run as quickly as his performance at the Half Marathon Youth Race he still put in excellent time of 7.29 finishing 47th out of 162 runners.
0 likesTheo ticked off run number 13 today in the beautiful Stoke Park. After a week off skiing, it has certainly made it difficult to get close to PB territory but Theo ran much quicker than last week with a time off 10.21 finishing 20th place out of 87 runners. Well done Theo and thank you so much for all your donations so far!
0 likesTheo put in a fantastic effort today, pushing through despite an early slip that caused some pain. His determination to keep going showed real commitment to his challenge. After a week off and six days of skiing, his legs were feeling the strain, but he still managed a time of 11:27. Tonbridge was buzzing with runners this morning, making for a great atmosphere and an enjoyable run!
0 likesA special milestone for Theo—his 150th parkrun! It was a beautifully sunny day on this hilly course, where he powered through to finish in 9:20. The amazing volunteers made the event even more fun, and Theo especially loved the gladiator foam hand high fives, which added an extra bit of excitement to counting the laps. A fantastic run all around!
0 likesA beautiful morning at Tilgate Junior Parkrun for Theo’s 10th run. This is a stunning course with a lake at the heart. We received a warm welcome from the amazing parkrun team and generous donations, thank you! A gentle shake-out run after yesterday’s race, finishing in 9:26. Grateful to be part of such a supportive community. See you again soon Tilgate!
0 likesA beautiful, sunny day on Brighton seafront set the stage for Theo’s 9th run. Competing in the boys 7-8 age group, Theo ran an excellent race, giving it his all and finishing an impressive 12th out of 112 runners. The announcers gave him and his challenge a shoutout, adding to the excitement of the day. It was also inspiring to see local GB athlete Alex Riley starting the race. A fantastic event and another strong performance from Theo, well done!
0 likesTheo went to the brilliantly organised Cranleigh Junior Parkrun this morning, in the beautiful Knowle Park, clocking a solid time of 9.25. Also, well done to Mummy for volunteering as a Marshall too!
1 likesTheo took on the hilly course at Queen’s Park Junior Parkrun today and smashed his overall PB with an incredible time of 9:08! The amazing support from the Parkrun team, his grandparents, and school friends made it even more special. A real highlight for Theo was meeting Harry, a national table tennis champion who has Down’s Syndrome. Harry came down to volunteer and support Theo, and his inspiration clearly gave Theo an extra boost! Well done, Theo—fantastic effort!
1 likesTheo ventured up to London this week completing the popular Bromley Junior Parkrun in grey and wet conditions. He cruised around the 2.5 lap course in a comfortable time of 10.21.
1 likesRun 4 🏃. Theo really enjoyed the run in Chichester today and ran the 3 laps quickly in a time of 09:27. Well done Theo!
1 likesRun number 3 completed today at Haywards Heath Junior Parkrun! This was a challenging course, filled with plenty of ups and downs (quite literally, thanks to the hills). Theo tackled it brilliantly, finishing in an impressive 10 minutes flat. Next week, we’re planning to take on a course in Derbyshire while visiting friends. Theo is looking forward to the new challenge!
1 likesThe sun shone as Theo completed the 2nd 2km run of his challenge in a time of 9.45. The freezing temperatures and cancellations at Haywards Heath and Eastbourne and an early stitch did not deter Theo as a quick switch to Hove Park worked out perfectly to keep the momentum going. Thank you to everyone that has donated so far!
1 likesIt seemed fitting to complete the first run of this challenge where Theo first started running Junior Parkruns, at Peacehaven. It was a rainy day but Theo completed the 2km in 9.55.
