Fight Night
I'm taking part in a boxing fight night, to raise as much money as possible for two incredible causes. The Ella Roberta Foundation campaigns for clean air for everyone and is run by Ella's family. Ella, from south London, was 9 when she died from a severe asthma attack and was the first person to have air pollution listed as a cause of death on her death certificate. The Benedict Blythe Foundation campaigns to better protect children with allergies in schools and is set up in memory of 5 year Benedict Blythe who died from anaphylaxis aged 5 at school.
The courage and dedication of both Ella and Benedict's families is beyond anything I can even imagine. I will be forever grateful to them for everything they do.
AND the big reason this means so much to me - for those of you who know, my nearly 5 year old son, Jonah has severe multiple allergies and severe asthma. Aged 18 months he suffered anaphylaxis - a life threatening allergic reaction. On the way to hospital we got stuck in traffic near the hospital which was 15 minutes from our house. He was struggling to breathe by then so I took him and ran. During that time he stopped responding to me and I will never forget that moment, as I thought I was going to lose him. Afterwards once stable in resus the doctor told me how worried they'd been for him. Since then we've carried epipens every where and have had to use them twice since. He's also developed severe asthma and we've had 3 serious asthma attacks. He once asked me when the ambulance was going to pick him up for our regular hospital check up, since he thought that was the normal way to travel to hospital!
So it's more than turned life upside down, and the complexities of living with both conditions have massive impact on everything we do. My heart breaks for Ella and Benedict's families - but by taking on this challenge with a boxing fight way out of my normal comfort zone, I hope I can raise as much money as possible to donate to them and support their incredible work and your donations will be split 50:50 between them. Thank you so much for your donation - please know that when I say this it really does mean the world. xx
Ps for anyone who wants to come and cheer me on, it's Saturday 30th November in London, I would LOVE to have you there.
