"Locks of Love" - Victoria's Hair Donation and Fundraising

Victoria Locking

Hello hello my lovely family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, possibly even strangers! The time is nigh for me to be chopping my locks off (mid-April, after my sister's wedding!)

If you've followed along with me from school, you'll know I've been doing this in cycles for the Little Princess Trust (www.littleprincesses.org.uk) and this will be donation numero 3 from me (It takes a while, ok?) plus one made by my Mum, just before she started treatment.
With the hair donation itself, I'd like to raise the money it costs to have a real hair wig made and delivered to a child who's suffered hair-loss as a result of cancer treatment, or otherwise - This amounts to £550.

Alongside this, I'm also tying-in equal fundraising for a charity which is a little closer to home right now for both my family and I, The Fountain Centre (www.fountaincentre.org)

The Fountain Centre is an independent cancer charity, based in St Luke's Cancer Centre, at the Royal Surrey Hospital. This is where my lovely Mum has been treated for her cancer over the past 2+ years. If you want a cliché, this is where actual angels walk among us - The people working here and the initiatives they roll out are invaluable to patients and families navigating cancer.

They help to provide a host of services, from the "big" things, like counselling and complementary therapies, to providing wigs and a quiet garden space for patients to escape into and get the sun on their face, all the way down to super useful "surprise-and-delights" like wellness goodie-bags for patients staying in hospital - They cover aspects which no one thinks about when someone's facing cancer, and cover family support too.
A quarter of new cancer patients have young school-aged children - The Fountain Centre helps families to navigate cancer together, alongside the patient, joining the dots for full support coverage when needed.

The Little Princess Trust is a national charity, which you may be more familiar with, providing real hair wigs to children and young people navigating cancer, who have suffered hair loss through treatment, or other conditions.
They also fund research into childhood cancers and strive to create kinder, more effective treatments and processes for patients.

Some friends have commented before saying my hair is my crowning glory - To be fair, it is decent!
But, it also grows like a weed, so cutting, changing style, maybe seeing it as a little "too short" to start with, is really not a big deal to me, especially if it means my locks can be repurposed for a young person without, who is navigating something that is actually big and scary - They don't need to be left feeling rubbish about their appearance due to hair loss, on top of blood tests, chemo treatments, rounds of appointments, anxiety etc.

When a child opens their wig box, the message inside reads "This wig isn't meant to hide your hair loss, but crown your courage and bravery" So, I'll wrap up here.

I appreciate any donations you can give - It would be mega to reach the goal for both charities by April, but equally understand it's a tricky time at present, so if you can't please don't fret - Your support is so appreciated in and of itself!
Thanks for reading the blurb, much love, and hopefully April will bring a big wad of cashola for these charities, alongside my very best, organically grown, Tesco's finest, locks of love x x x
