Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trek

On Monday 14th of October, the 7 of us begin our journey to Everest Base Camp and beyond. The 19 day adventure will see us reach an altitude of 18,519 ft (5,645m) above sea level.

This expedition is a bucket list for many, and a reality we wanted to accomplish to celebrate multiple milestones in our lives, and importantly commemorate and recognise those less fortunate.

Against this backdrop, we will collectively be raising money for two very important charities that are close to our hearts. BRIGHT FUTURES and THE UK SEPSIS TRUST.

Our goal is to raise £75,000 for these two charities.

Thank you in advance for helping us to make a difference.

BRIGHT FUTURES

Inspired by its founder Joshua Pelled’s own battles with cancer, Bright Futures UK is dedicated to helping young people navigate the challenges of illness during their education. For children diagnosed with cancer, months—and sometimes years—of treatment can leave them far behind in school, disconnected, and struggling with their futures.

Nigel Henry commented “In 2018 I was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer. Various treatments followed with a great outcome. In 2022 not only did the prostate cancer return, but I was also diagnosed with two forms of lung cancer, again stage 4.

Today, I'm clear and focused on helping the so many young people I've seen over the years having treatment and struggling to keep up with their education”

THE UK SEPSIS TRUST
https://sepsistrust.org/
5 people die every hour of Sepsis in the UK alone, with 11,000,000 deaths globally per year. There is no single sign or diagnostic test, and sepsis is indiscriminate: while it primarily affects very young children, older adults, and people with underlying health conditions, it can sometimes be triggered in those who are otherwise fit and healthy. UKST works to educate healthcare professionals to recognise and treat sepsis promptly, but we also need the public to know when to Just Ask: Could it be Sepsis?

Daniel Robey commented, “My younger sister felt unwell on a Friday, by Sunday she was on full life-support with multiple organ failures, and by Thursday her machines were turned off. She leaves 3 young children.

The awareness of Sepsis and its symptoms are far too low, for a condition that kills so fast. The work of UKST is essential to reduce the number of deaths and avoid the horrors faced by too many”.

Our goal is to end preventable deaths from sepsis and improve outcomes for sepsis survivors. We believe that earlier diagnosis and treatment across the UK could save several thousand lives each year.
