The walk is in support for our friend and colleague Richard Wood who is through his main treatment for T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia which he has been having for around the last 14 months and he will continue with 2 years maintenance treatment.
To say thank you for all the support Richard and his wife Lisa have been given and to give a little back we decided to challenge ourselves on this charity walk. Richard and Lisa live in Huddersfield and all his treatment was given at St James University Hospital in Leeds, so we will be walking from the Hospital to our work place in Salford Quays.
There is team of us that are physically doing the walk over the 2 days but we are hoping that many more will join us in a virtual walk over a period of a couple of weeks that will be available on an app.
The two charities we are supporting are:
Leukaemia Care - which is a charity that knows how important it is to help you understand what you are about to go through when you have been diagnosed with blood cancer. Whether you are a patient or a carer, we are dedicated to ensuring that anyone affected receives the right information, advice and support. This covers information, Support Groups, Buddies, Counselling etc.
and
Hugs on a Tray - which is a charitable organisation providing funding in order to supply free TV, tea and snacks to benefit Haematology patients and their families in St James’s Hospital, Bexley Wing.
