Charity Trek to Everest Base Camp - March 2025
I'm the girl who absolutely hates the cold, is terrified of spiders and bugs, loves a hot bubble bath, must wash and blow-dry my hair every day and I have to sleep in a warm comfy bed... I'm a total neat freak and everything has to be clean and organised... So the thought of "roughing it" in any way, fills me with the utmost of dread quite frankly!
HOWEVER... I decided that I want to step out of my comfort zone and really challenge myself – and raise money for charity too… So, I AM CLIMBING TO EVEREST BASE CAMP!! I will be starting my Trek on Friday 14th March 2025 - flying out to Kathmandu on March 12th. EEEEEEEK!!! We will be walking between 4 - 8 hours a day, rain or shine - with limited showering facilities (OMG!).
ANY DONATIONS / SPONSORSHIP WILL BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED - every single penny will be going to the following very worthwhile causes which all have a special place in my heart (don't forget to click on the Gift Aid button too). Thankyou sooo much! xxx
KIDNEY RESEARCH UK -
I know from personal experience the effects of having a relative who has kidney disease. Your life revolves around the disease – the symptoms, the exhaustion, the worry, the pain, the regular dialysis sessions 3 times a week for approximately 5 hours a time… and even if you’re lucky enough to receive the gift of life – a transplant, afterwards there are the array of daily medications which have to be taken and a total lifestyle change.
As the leading kidney research charity in the UK, Kidney Research UK’s mission is to end kidney disease. This is a disease that ruins lives and it must be stopped. There are estimated to be 7.2 million people in the UK currently living with chronic kidney disease, treatments can be gruelling and currently there is no cure so their research is invaluable and offers hope to kidney patients and their families.
OCUMEL UK
Ocumel UK is a charity which supports those affected by Ocular Melanoma (Eye cancer). They aim to help patients and their families by providing information and emotional support, encourage best practice amongst healthcare professionals, and most of all, to alleviate the isolation felt by patients and family alike.
Their mission is to change the landscape for people with ocular melanoma cancers by uniting the wider community, so that every person receives the support, information, and treatment they need to live well for longer.
Being a small charity, they get to know the people they support and some of the challenges they face. They have built a community within the UK for patients and their families - this community helps to remove isolation and shares knowledge on coping with vision loss, treatment effects and other related concerns.
THE HONEYPOT CHILDRENS CHARITY
Honeypot has been a charity for 28 years now and has adapted and developed services to meet the needs of young carers aged 5-12. They receive no direct, regular government funding and so every single donation to Honeypot is really valued and makes a difference to young carers. They do not charge the families of the young carers they provide respite to.
Young carers take on a role at home that you would normally expect an adult to do - physically caring for a parent or sibling and giving emotional support. The Honeypot Children’s Charity is the only charity in the UK that provides continuous support for young carers aged 5-12. Their vision is to build brighter futures and create happy childhood memories for young carers.
Honeypot’s Wrap-Round service aims to alleviate social isolation, support young carers' emotional wellbeing, and help them build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in education. Their services include much needed free respite breaks, educational support, pastoral support, free memorable days out and a Wellbeing Fund.
