The Mayor of Elmbridge Firewalk
The Mayor of Elmbridge Firewalk
Councillor Neil Houston, the Mayor of Elmbridge
Story
Together with my wife, Veronica, I am raising funds by taking part in a Charity Firewalk and are asking people to sign up and join us, or- if that’s not for you- to please donate.
A Firewalk is where participants walk bare foot over twenty feet of red-hot coals, each ember burning at temperatures of up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit!! As you can imagine this takes a great deal of bravery, courage and determination!
In my role as The Mayor of Elmbridge, I have chosen to support two charities throughout my mayoral year.
Home-Start Elmbridge is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age. It offers practical and emotional support to families who are struggling to cope for a variety of reasons, from illness, poverty, and isolation through to domestic violence and poor mental health. Home-Start Elmbridge is there for parents when they need it most because childhood can’t wait.
I was very keen to choose a charity that provides support to families with young children, to help them to live happy lives and help them achieve their full potential.
Having been a full-time dad to young children, I am particularly pleased that within the charity’s wide range of activities the needs of dads are also recognised, and specific services are included to help meet their needs.
The Mayor of Elmbridge Trust also supports vulnerable families within Elmbridge. It looks to provide funding for necessary furniture and household items/services such as beds, washing machines, fridges, rugs, support with educational expenses, books and equipment and sometimes a contribution towards necessary disability equipment, where it is not met by the NHS.
Please do sign up to take part and/or donate today to help us achieve our goal of raising £10,000 for Home-Start Elmbridge and The Mayor of Elmbridge Trust.
