Warrender Souls Swim The English Channel
4558
We are a group of six swimmers living in Edinburgh who after Open Water Swimming for "fun" in the Forth have decided to take on the iconic England to France Channel crossing. Although a few of us are seasoned pool swimmers some of us have only learnt to swim quite recently .. so this will be a real challenge both physically and mentally. As the crow flies it's about 21 miles or 32 K or 1280 lengths of your local pool and the tides generally make it a bit longer (and some of us don't swim in a straight line!). OK so we're not just doing it for fun .. we are supporting and raising awareness for three great charities. SAMH, Scotland's mental health charity that provides a range of support services for people with mental health issues; Sarcoma UK a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments for Sarcoma; and Cancer Research UK a leading cancer charity that funds scientists, doctors and nurses to help beat cancer sooner, and provides vital cancer information to the public. If you want to follow our progress here is the tracking link: http://cspf.co.uk/tracking.WE MADE IT! Blessed with almost perfect conditions (Sunny 26 C, water temp ca.18.5 C) and calm seas we had a great day for the swim . Setting off at 5:23 a.m. with Ewan leading us out and Joanna finishing we made it across in 11h 14 mins. Thank you all for the messages of support and generous donations.
