Tom Sim's Run for Mum: 7 Ultras in 7 Days
Saturday 21st September 2024 - Wednesday 1st January 2025
Saturday 21st September 2024 - Wednesday 1st January 2025
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. In February 2023 my mum Fiona was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Following months of treatment, she sadly passed away at Eden Valley Hospice in October that year.
Despite the diagnosis of an aggressive Glioblastoma multiforme she remained strong and positive throughout her treatment, as was her character. She was an incredibly kind and caring person who was the heart and soul of our family. Her generosity to others – both professionally as a Health Visitor and then to her family, friends, and even complete strangers – will always be a true inspiration.
The Challenge:
On September 14th I am setting out on a fundraising challenge in memory of my mum. Over seven days, I am aiming to run 368 km (about 230 miles) from Maggie’s in Edinburgh, down the east coast to Maggie’s in Newcastle, across Hadrian’s Wall to Eden Valley Hospice in Carlisle, and then finally 24 km southeast to our family home in Lazonby. I enjoy running but have never done anything like this before, so it's going to be quite the challenge!
Friends and family will be joining me at various points along the way, with my wife Kristen and dad Rob heading up the support team.
You can keep track of my training at the bottom of this page or here: https://strava.app.link/zN1Mp2xreLb

The Charities:
During my mum’s illness, the Maggie’s centre in Newcastle was a welcoming and safe place where she and my dad could go for a cup of tea and some respite. Similarly, visiting the Maggie’s centre in Edinburgh has been a great help to me personally in terms of support since losing Mum. Eden Valley Hospice offered support and dignity to my mum and our family during the most unimaginably difficult circumstances.
Both these charities mean so much to us as a family and the work they do continues to help others. For more information on the incredible work they do, please see the links below.

Finally…
This summer my Dad walked the entire Hebridean Way in memory of my mum – you can read all about his journey here: https://www.givewheel.com/fundraising/2502/best-foot-forward-for-fiona/
Any donations or messages of support are greatly appreciated. If you can't donate yourself, sharing this page will still really help raise awareness. Thank you again for visiting my fundraising page,
Tom
