The Three Peaks Challenge for Three Charities
As 2024 is my 50th year I wanted to set myself a challenge and at the same time raise invaluable funds for charity!
While climbing Snowdon last year, it came to me, the three peaks challenge in under 24 hours!
Thankfully , my guide for that trip, Jason Haste, agreed to help make it happen for me! Add to that a team that includes Matt, Luci (also her 50th year), Martyn, Andrew, and Chris, and we shall be smashing it out on July 1st!!
As a team, we felt three charities for three peaks was perfect !
So for the charity choices.
Sadly, last month we discovered my father has cancer ! Nothing can prepare you for that news and the waiting game is a long one! Jason, Chris, Matt and Andrew lost a member of their ‘Wolfpack’, Owen, to cancer who was still so young! Matt and Luci have lived through his mother battling the disease and his Auntie, sadly, losing that battle all within a short space of time!
We have chosen MacMillan as our first charity as they raise money to provide vital cancer services, research and campaign to achieve a better cancer care. Not only do they support people living with cancer but also give help to the families which we have all realised is so important also!
Martyn then suggested the charity CALM - Campaign Against Living Miserably!
Martyn sadly lost his best man, Justin, 6 years ago, and I too lost my gorgeous friend, Natalie, six years ago also and that was followed by two young men and one young girl all under 30! 125 lives are lost every week to suicide and 75% of all suicides are male! CALM are doing everything they can to change that!
This was definitely the perfect second choice for our fundraising.
Finally, Jason and Martyn, do work with the Berkshire Animal Connection Centre. They provide sanctuary to mostly unwanted, abused or abandoned animals! The centre, then allows people to benefit from therapeutic interaction with them. This is often people suffering from a range of emotional, mental, physical and social problems!
This is such an amazing Centre and the work they do really is special!
As a team we now look forward to raising as much money as possible for these vital charities and the amazing work they do!
Just three small hills stand in our way!!
We appreciate any pennies you can give us towards our fundraising.
Regards
Selina, Jason, Matt, Luci, Martyn, Andrew and Chris
