Regent's Canal Walk for Wildlife

Kabir Kaul

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I’m an 18-year-old conservationist and wildlife campaigner. I’ll be walking the length of the Regent’s Canal in a day (map above), in support of the London Wildlife Trust and Wild Justice. I'll be walking on 19th April.

For the past six years I’ve been raising awareness of wildlife, particularly in London where I live. Across the country, our biodiversity is in decline. One in six species in Great Britain is threatened with extinction (State of Nature report, 2023), and in our urban areas, nature has declined by 47% since 1970 (State of Nature report, 2019).

Two organisations close to my heart are working tirelessly to reverse these declines: the London Wildlife Trust and Wild Justice.

The London Wildlife Trust is the only charity dedicated to enhancing nature across the whole of London, from urban parkland to nationally important wetlands and reservoirs. Much of the Trust’s work is led by young people. Since 2018, the Keeping it Wild scheme has supported over 60 paid trainees in practical conservation and inspired over 1000 11-25 year olds to actively promote nature in London. I have been fortunate to work with the Trust in several capacities, so I have seen first-hand the brilliant work of staff, volunteers and trainees alike.

Wild Justice works to secure better legal protection for our wildlife. Using the courts, they challenge decisions by the Government and its agencies, and campaign for stronger laws and policies. Recent campaigns have been related to sewage discharges in rivers, glyphosate use by local authorities and illegal persecution of birds of prey. It is run by Chris Packham, Mark Avery and Ruth Tingay - a true dream team of conservationists working hard to defend our natural world.

In support of both these organisations and their incredible work, I will be walking the length of the Regent’s Canal in a day. The walk will begin in Little Venice and end at Limehouse Basin, covering 8.6 miles (13.8 km). Your donations will be split evenly between the two organisations. Donations are a main source of income for both of them, so every penny you donate will help in the fight to protect our precious habitats and their wildlife.

Thank you in advance for your contributions, however big or small.

Kabir
