Lovely Will Fundraiser

On Sunday 27th September, we’re running the Sheffield 10K in memory of Will Cowling, who sadly passed away last year, aged just 35.

Will was a much-loved member of the Lovely Pear team, a familiar and friendly face in our community, and a much-loved son, brother, stepson and friend.

Will’s story:

Will was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in May 2025. IPF is a serious and unpredictable lung disease that causes permanent scarring of the lungs and makes breathing increasingly difficult. There is currently no cure.

By the time Will was diagnosed, the fibrosis had already spread across most of his lungs. Just two months later, he was also diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, a serious heart condition caused by the IPF.

A double lung and heart transplant was the only option that could potentially prolong his life, but sadly Will was too unwell to undergo such major surgery. He continued to face everything with incredible strength and determination before passing away on 28th August 2025.

Despite his diagnosis, Will made the most of every day. He connected with others living with IPF, shared his journey and encouraged people going through the same thing.

He celebrated the small victories — from cycling 5km indoors and attending hospital rehab, to walking in the Peak District with his oxygen tanks. Even during his final weeks in hospital, he continued to support others and celebrate their achievements.

And he did it all with his trademark humour and positivity.

Will brought that same warmth to Lovely Pear cafe, where he worked for six years. He was known for his kindness, generosity, humour and loyalty, as well as being an incredibly talented chef. His positivity and determination left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

We’re running to remember Will, celebrate his life and help support others living with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Both charities support people affected by Pulmonary Fibrosis and work to improve understanding, support and outcomes for those living with this devastating disease.
