Wellington School 24-Hour Cricket Net Challenge

Most cricket training sessions last a couple of hours, but this one will last a whole 24.

On Tuesday 30 June at 8.30am, we, the Wellington school Cricket captains, step into the cricket nets and won’t be stopping until 8.30am the following morning. Through the day, the evening, when everyone else is in bed, and breakfast the next morning, we will be there, batting for charity! Continuously taking it in turns facing the bowling machine.

With the support of Mr Lawrence and many other brilliant teachers and staff at Wellington, we’ll be doing our best to keep going for a full 24 hours.

We’re taking on this challenge to raise awareness of mental health, while raising money for three charities that are making a real difference: Mind, Samaritans and Opening Up Cricket.

If the weather is kind to us, we’ll be based on the school field during the day before moving to the PRSC overnight.

We know that mental health challenges can affect anyone, and we know how important it is that people feel able to talk about what they’re going through and seek support when they need it. Through this challenge, we hope to raise awareness, start conversations and help support charities that provide life-changing help to so many people.

Alongside the challenge, we’ll also be running an auction with fantastic prizes, including: signed keeping gloves by England and Somerset player, James Rew, a Jellycat and a signed Manchester United pennant, plus many more! Have a look on our auction page to get involved!

All proceeds will be going to our chosen charities.

If you’re able to support us, we’d be incredibly grateful for any donation, big or small. Every pound raised will help these charities continue their vital work supporting people through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Whether you donate, take part in our auction, share our page or simply cheer us on, thank you for helping us make a difference!

Opening Up Cricket was formed in response to the death of Sefton Park CC wicket keeper, Alex Miller, and a will to promote positive mental health in our sport. Alex took his own life in December 2012, and in the year that followed his team mates supported the work of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to pay tribute to him.
