HAND OF HOPE

When Bukayo Saka missed his Euro 2020 Final shoot-out penalty and England lost to Italy, he was the target of abhorrent racist abuse. But one image of him being consoled on the touchline by England’s chef went around the world – and has inspired a series of 39 paintings by some of the world’s leading artists. These are now being sold at a prestige auction and will be sold as prints and downloads.

The art has also inspired Hand of Hope, a movement aimed at giving all children, no matter their backgrounds, the chance to pick up a paintbrush and discover their unique voices through art. Budget cuts deny art education to more than 90% of state school students and, for those who do have it, basic paint and paper is often strictly rationed. For homeless, refugee and destitute children, the barrier is even higher.

Hand of Hope is partnering with the Hampstead School of Art – the oldest, charitable art-making and learning centre in north London – to raise an initial target of £20,000 to help us deliver the life-changing joy of painting to as many children as possible.
