Golden Eagle Ashley Green Three Peaks Challenge
On 5th October, 13 normal blokes from the Golden Eagle pub in Ashley Green will be taking on a tough challenge climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales over 3 days to raise much needed funds for causes that are close to all our hearts and have touched us all.
The charities we are supporting are South Bucks Hospice and Cancer Research UK. We all have friends and relatives who have been impacted or whom we have lost to this terrible disease but we also recognise that amongst the fear and the sadness there are shining beacons of light; charitably funded organisations there to help people when they need it most. Cancer Research and South Bucks Hospice are 2 sparks of hope that we want to help burn ever more brightly and so we are embarking on our challenge and intend to raise at least £25,000 to support them.
Our motivations are all quite personal, our friend Bentley and several of his family are part of the challenge team; they will all walk in memory of his mum who they lost to cancer last year. I also lost my mum to cancer in 2020 and many of us have similar sad experiences. Closest to home, Mark Dixons partner Helen is a friend to all of us, she was diagnosed in 2021 with incurable stage 4 metastatic breast cancer at 48 years old and has been going through treatment for the past 2 years. She shares her story elsewhere on this page, but through her we became aware of South Bucks Hospice, they are one of only 5 day outpatient hospices in the country and the South Bucks unit provides incredible help and supports to cancer sufferers and their relatives throughout a huge area of the south of England including Herts and Bucks. We visited their wonderful facility recently and were amazed by what they do there, its a wonderful building providing some hugely important services, but they don't have enough therapists and staff to make full use of all their resources. With our fundraising, they will be able to hire a specialist therapist to provide services for at least a year helping so many patients and families as a result.
We are just a normal group of lads from all walks of life, but we are part of a strong community that supports one and other. This challenge is us standing together to do what we can to help those impacted by cancer. We are self funding our entire challenge, so every penny you donate to this site will go to South Bucks Hospice and Cancer Research UK. Thank you for your support!
