Appear vs the dragon ride and the three peaks

At Appear, we’re a small team who like taking on a challenge and supporting causes that matter to us. This year, we’ll be taking part in both the Three Peaks Challenge and the Dragon Ride to raise money for charity. We’ll also be working with industry partners to help us complete these challenges and maximise our fundraising efforts.
We’re supporting two charities: Young Lives vs Cancer and Rise, which supports women in broadcasting.
Young Lives vs Cancer is particularly close to home for us. One of our colleagues, Chris, has had direct experience with the charity and has shared his story below:
Back in October 2023, my daughter Francesca (then 12) was diagnosed with brain cancer. Living in South Devon, she was sent to Bristol Children’s Hospital for surgery and further treatment. As we live over 90 miles away, I initially stayed in hotels while my wife stayed in hospital with our daughter.
A few days in, I was made aware of charity accommodation at the Ronald McDonald House, where I stayed for ten days. We were then told Francesca would need six weeks of intensive radiotherapy, also in Bristol. That’s when Young Lives vs Cancer stepped in — a charity we hadn’t previously come across.
After two weeks in hospital, we were able to move into CLIC House in Bristol, run by Young Lives vs Cancer. It was within walking distance of the hospital and provided a comfortable place to stay alongside other families going through similar situations. The staff were incredibly supportive. It made a very difficult time more manageable, and gave us some stability during those six weeks.
In 2024, I organised a fundraiser with a group of school friends and we raised over £20,000. As a family, we’re very grateful that this charity has been chosen for this year’s challenges.

Rise is also important to us as a broadcasting company. We want to see more women entering and progressing in the industry. Rise was set up in 2017 to support women working in broadcast media technology across areas such as operations, engineering, sales, marketing, and business roles.
Since then, it has grown into a global network, running events and programmes that focus on mentoring, training, and community support. In 2025, Rise extended its work into the AV sector.
Supporting Rise helps create more opportunities and visibility for women in the industry, and contributes to a more balanced and inclusive workforce.
Both charities are important to us in different ways, and any support is greatly appreciated.
