7 in 7 – To Tiree and Back
12546
This year marks the 10 year anniversary of my sister Monica’s passing following her illness with leukaemia. To commemorate this occasion, I have set myself my toughest physical challenge yet - to run from our home in Dumbarton to Tiree and back, totalling 7 marathons in 7 days.
On 12th March 2016, Monica passed after 14 months of care at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. Anyone who has encountered here will know of the tremendous care they offer to patients often having their very worst days. Although we lost Monica, the care and support our family have experienced here was phenomenal.
In running from our family home in Dumbarton to Tiree and back, I will be taking on the journey we made many times going on our holidays, this time by foot. When our aunt and uncle built a house in Tiree, it became a staple trip for our family, and a place many special memories were made.
On this occasion, I am raising money for two charities. Supporting research for advancements in leukaemia treatment I hope, one day, will offer cure for others. For these reasons I am running in support of The Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research centre as well as The Beatson Cancer Charity. This Glasgow based charity has close interactions with the clinical departments of the Beatson, supporting key research for leukaemia treatments. Any support in donations, company on the run, or well wishes for the journey, would be greatly appreciated!
