Climbing for the Countryside: My Journey to the Summit of Kilimanjaro
In July 2026, I will be stepping outside my comfort zone and onto the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. This trek is more than just a personal challenge; it is a journey driven by a deep love for my community and a tribute to a very special person.
Why I’m Climbing...
Growing up in a farming family and living in a rural area, the countryside isn't just a place - it's home. Whether I’m hiking through the stunning Welsh landscapes or following the grit and speed of the Welsh Rally Stages, the outdoors has always been my sanctuary.
However, rural life comes with its own set of challenges, and the support systems we rely on are vital. I am raising money for three charities that are the lifeblood of the farming and rural community:
- Wales Air Ambulance: Providing life-saving care across the difficult terrain of Wales.
- RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution): Offering essential support to farming families in times of need.
- Shropshire Rural Support: Providing a lifeline and mental health support for those living and working in the rural sector.
In Loving Memory...
Most importantly, I am taking on this climb in memory of my Mum, who passed away suddenly in January 2022. My friends and family know she was a force to be reckoned with and as I inherited her stubbornness we didn't always see eye-to-eye; but she was my biggest supporter and a true pillar of our rural community. These three charities were incredibly close to her heart - ones she supported during her life or would have championed with everything she had.
Every step I take toward the summit is a step taken in her honor, carrying her spirit with me to the highest point in Africa.
How You Can Help...
Those who know me, know that hiking isn't something I am new to and I am pretty fit, however scaling Kilimanjaro will still be a massive physical and mental undertaking, (the altitude is a massive concern and not something I can plan for or train for in any vigour) but knowing I have the support of my friends, family, and community makes all the difference. Any donation, no matter how small, will be split between these three incredible causes and will help ensure that our rural communities continue to get the support they deserve.
Thank you for helping me reach the summit and for keeping my Mum’s memory alive through these vital charities.

The Adventure Doesn’t Stop There... 🤫 I’m also keeping a little secret for the end of the trip. If the stars align, the trek hasn't totally broken me and the weather is on my side, I’m planning to follow up the adventure with another huge leap of faith. After completing the hike I will be flying down to Zanzibar for a couple of days recovery on the breach, however, it might not all be rest and recuperation - I’m hoping to finish this journey with the ultimate "high."
