In August 2025, my older brother Marcus was diagnosed with a Grade 3 astrocytoma glioma brain tumour, following 2 seizures which had initially been brushed off as burnout or potential epilepsy. After his second seizure, he had an MRI which ultimately led to his diagnosis.

In August, he underwent surgery to remove the tumour (which was successful!) and has completed a course of radiotherapy in November 2025. He is currently undergoing a year of chemo, which will end at the end of 2026.

I wanted to raise money for a charity, the Astro Brain Tumour Fund, which has been incredibly helpful in helping us understand what we've been dealing with, as well as helping navigate the various different treatment options available.

The Astro Brain Tumour Fund is a member charity of Brain Tumour Research and was originally set up to focus on low grade (grade 1 and 2) tumours, however they have been increasingly expanding into supporting higher grade patients (such as my bother). It was set up in 2001 by Katie Sheen, who was shocked to find that there was minimal research into low grade tumours after her brother in law was diagnosed with a low grade tumour in 2000.

Despite it being the biggest cancer killer of children and young adults (those under 40) in the UK, only 1-2% of cancer research funding goes towards brain tumour research. I'd love to raise as much money as possible for the Astro Fund, in order to enable them to support more families like they have done for mine!

Separately, one of my close friends Anna devastatingly lost her beloved younger sister Pippa in March 2024, 7 years after being diagnosed with a grade 3 anaplastic pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (APXA) - an incredibly rare brain tumour. Pippa and her family were greatly supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust, and so some of the money raised will be sent to TCT :)
