On Saturday 20th September, 5 members of the Deka Crime Team, set off to conquer the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire in memory two much beloved members of the team who were lost far too young; Philip Henry and Fred Ferguson.
Sadly the weather was against us, with the severe warning for rain being more of a reality than cautionary. Undeterred the team set off, long before dawn into the dark, damp dales of Yorkshire. It was nothing short of madness! As the famous 4 Weddings quote goes: there comes a point when you can’t get any wetter! Given the conditions, it was a miracle that even two of three peaks were conquered, when the risk of hypothermia and strong advice from the organisers called a halt to the day’s adventures. We have all sworn to return in the Spring to finish the job off.
A little about our chosen charities:Diabetes UK's vision is a world where diabetes can do no harm. They campaign for better care, give support in times of need and fund ground-breaking research into new treatments and a cure. With better understanding of the condition Philip would still be with us today.Princess Alice Hospice in Esher is a wonderful supportive environment that helps families through illness and bereavement. They took fantastic care of Fred and those of us who visited him there know what a difference it made.
