The 1805 Club

Through our programme of commemorative initiatives, publications, research and education, The 1805 Club is building a global community of enthusiasts of naval history from all backgrounds. We invite you to join us on our voyage, recognising the role of the world’s sailing navies of the Georgian period (1714-1837) and promoting their legacy into the modern seafaring age.

The age of sail in the Georgian period was an exciting time of discovery and revolution. Our aim is to inspire greater understanding of the achievements of the maritime world of the 18th and 19th centuries. The 1805 Club takes its name from the iconic Battle of Trafalgar which gave Nelson his acclaimed place in history and confirmed the role of the Royal Navy in asserting sea power. However its mission extends far beyond Trafalgar and Nelson, honouring the everyday seafarers, brave explorers and engineers around the world who contributed to life at sea and helped the worlds' navies become what they are today.

Your Impact

Amongst its commemorative projects, The 1805 Club is proud to be the custodian of The Trafalgar Way, a historic coaching route from Falmouth to London as taken by the Trafalgar Messenger returning from Battle to London with his important news. The Club gives talks on this exciting story and other subjects and funds plaques, memorials, information boards and other artifacts to help educate the public and preserve the maritime history of the Georgian period.

Funds raised enable this work to be continued and valuable new projects to be undertaken. Your donations might help support the development of our digital presence, enabling more people around the world to access research and data relating to the 18th and 19th-century age of sail. Or they might help to fund new displays or conservation projects to protect our maritime history and ensure it carries forward for future generations to enjoy.
