Renewed Hope Trust
Renewed Hope provides practical solutions and emotional support to the homeless and vulnerable of East Surrey.
In our Drop-In centre, we provide hot meals, a shower, clothing and endless cups of tea. Our support worker focuses on each individual's needs and connects them with relevant services, such as homelessness officers, outreach teams, domestic violence workers, substance abuse teams and employment and training services. Volunteers and staff work hard to create a safe and welcoming environment for all guests.
In February 2022, we opened our first accommodation project (Hope House): a four-bedroom house through which we offer temporary supported housing to people who have been sleeping rough and help them develop the skills and confidence to return to independent living.
Prior to Covid, we ran a rotating winter night shelter using local church halls, but the pandemic brought this to an end. Our response was to secure funding for Hope House, and the Project Coordinator is currently leading discussions with the local council regarding the need for further provision for rough sleepers.
Your Impact
Our guests are mostly local people, who are in urgent need of support. They may have experienced a tragedy or family break-up which has led to a loss of confidence, isolation, unemployment, physical and mental health issues, financial hardship and, in many cases, homelessness.
During 2022, we welcomed 164 individuals to Drop-In; 36 women and 128 men, aged between 18 and 75. At least 51 of these guests had a history of mental health problems, 22 were suffering from addiction and 13 had recently been discharged from prison. 64 of them were homeless.
