The National 3 Peaks, and every mile in-between:- Solo, unsupported walk- 500 miles/800km- 19 marathons in 17 days for four charities
Starting on the 12th August 2027 I will attempt to complete the National 3 Peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon), and walking every mile in between in a solo, self-supported adventure. It will involve nearly 800km/500 miles of fast hiking. My goal is to walk 19 marathons in 17 consecutive days.
This challenge is self-supported because:I will have no support crewI will not have any vehicle supportI will walk solo at all timesI will be self-reliant at all timesI will carry everything I need on my own back
My trek begins at Glen Nevis Campsite, Fort William. I will climb Ben Nevis, then turn south on the West Highland Way to Glasgow via Glencoe, Loch Lomond and Garadhban Forest.Next comes a long section through South West Scotland on the Southern Upland Way and Annandale Way via Lesmahagow, Brattleburn Bothy and onto Annan.Entering England I will walk through Carlisle and into the Lake District on the Cumbria Way, detouring to climb Scafell Pike. Then, it's a long slog from Kendal via Lancaster, Preston, Haydock and Ellesmere Port.Entering Wales I will walk along the North Wales Coastal Path via Prestatyn and Penmaenmawr before turning inland to climb Snowdon, My finish point is the sign of Victoria Terrace in Llanberis - opposite the Royal Victoria Hotel.
In terms of accommodation I will camp for seven nights including 3 wild-camps. The rest will be in B&B's, Travelodges and a Bothy. I will resupply with food and drink along the way.
My thanks goes to James Forrest, the author of 'Mountain Man' for his help and advice.
Why I am doing this?
In 2019 my son was diagnosed with brain cancer. After five operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, we were told Jake was tumour free.In late 2023 Jake's cancer had returned, this time spreading into the spine. This required an operation on his spine and more radiotherapy to his brain and spine. We were then told the devastating news that his cancer is incurable, he continues with regular scans. The four charities I'm doing this trek for are:Teenage Cancer TrustYoung Lives v CancerNewcastle HospitalsWillow FoundationThese charities have provided us with so much help and support, and we can never thank them enough. My Trek Itinerary :Day 1.Glen Nevis Campsite, climb Ben Nevis and onto Kingshouse,Glencoe 28.63 miles.Day 2.Kingshouse to Beinn Glas Campsite.30.43 miles.Day 3.Beinn Glas Campsite to Garadhban Forest.25.7 miles.Day 4.Garadhban Forest to Glasgow.21.25 miles.Day 5.Glasgow to Lesmahagow,25.29 miles.Day 6.Lesmahagow to Brattleburn Bothy,32.48 miles.Day 7.Brattleburn Bothy to Annan,37.69 miles.Day 8.Annan to Caldbeck Campsite,33.84 miles.Day 9.Caldbeck Campsite to Angle Tarn ,via Scafell Pike,30.46 miles.Day 10.Angle Tarn to Kendal,27.33 miles.Day 11.Kendal to Lancaster, 24.06 miles.Day 12.Lancaster to Preston,29.07 miles.Day 13.Preston to Haydock, 28.42 miles.Day 14.Haydock to Ellesmere Port,28.57 miles.Day 15.Ellesmere Port to Prestatyn,32.07 miles.Day 16.Prestatyn to Penmeanmawr,25.67 miles.Day 17.Penmeanmawr to Snowdon Summit and finish at Victoria Terrace Llanberis.28.02 miles.Total Distance: 488.98 miles or 786.93 kilometres.Thank you for taking the time to read my fundraising page, any donation would be greatly appreciated.
